It just works I buy stuff from my phone all the time and when I sync with Zune they are added to the Zune collection

Right on - I'll give it a shot. I rarely ever sync to my computer, so I'm not an expert in the process.

You can also re-download. Since everything is tied to your Live ID, in the Zune desktop software, log in with your Live ID, go to Settings --> Account --> Subscription History. You'll see everything you've downloaded and, if not on the PC you're on, a download button will appear.
