I think this has been going on since the layout change, but sent private messages do not save in the "sent" folder when they are composed and sent through a computer. If composed and sent through the WP app then yes, they are saved. I just find this behavior odd.

Click on the 'Settings' drop down, and then 'settings' again.


Down the left hand side of the site, look for and click on 'general settings':

Scroll down the page a bit and you'll see an option for 'sent private messages'. Make sure 'save a copy of sent messages in my 'sent items' folder by default' is selected. The other option 'Don't save a copy of sent messages' is probably selected in your account:

Save your changes, and you should be good to go.
