When are we going to get these hot apps?
- 12-22-2012, 03:54 AM #2
These apps are being launch on the OS that the developers think that will bring them the most money. As much as I love WP8 I have to say that iOS and Android are the places people look to first when they first release an app. These people are trying to get paid like everyone else.

Ha, I wasn't sure what snapchat was so I googled it and came across their site with two girls snapping a picture of themselves. Is that all it is? Just another picture sharing app?

The world can do without Instagram.
Current Phone: Nokia Lumia 920
Past Phones: iPhone 4, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Focus, Samsung Focus Flash, Nokia Lumia 900, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4
Tablet: Microsoft Surface Pro, Nexus 7Thanked by: - 12-22-2012, 10:12 AM #7
This is the app problem with wp8. It's not how many apps wp8 has compared to the others, it's not how many of last years top 50 we have. The problem is wp8 doesn't get the hot new apps first. Despite Joe B telling the devs that it's a bonanza waiting to happen , it's not.
I love wp8, and I won't leave until the platform is dead, but facts are facts.Thanked by: - 12-22-2012, 10:31 AM #8
WP8 is very new. Give it time...

Anybody who doesn't develop apps (not programs) for Windows 8/RT is a fool. And if you are developing for Win8, porting to WP8 is a natural progression, and another income channel.

there are a few third party apps that let you view (but not post) to instagram, which is better than nothing. I use Instacam and like it.
as for snapchat, it is VERY popular with HS and college age kids here in the US. I'm a junior in college and people are friggin on that app all the time. people I know have substituted it for texting basically. I do find it kind of stupid, but if MS wants to appeal to the market and gain some fanbase, young smartphone users are key to me - 12-22-2012, 11:46 AM #12
Welcome to WP. Missing out, that's what we do around here.

Fhotoroom is an windows phone and windows 7 &8 app only. I find it to be better than instagram in everything but... Wait for it.... Users. None of my family or friends can use it because most of them are on IOS, and a couple on android

I recently discovered EyeEm, which I like better than both Fhotoroom and Instagram.

I am going to keep this brief. All you guys have to know is that I have a sentimental attachment towards Nokia. I have grown up with their devices and would not want to lose them, that too from Apple and Samsung. We all know, realise and accept the fact that WP8 has a very impressive UI and a great OS. We also know that it lacks on apps and functionality when it comes to business use (As I have heard other users complaining, I am OK with it). MS has been in this business for so many years, the least we would expect off them is to provide great business functionality without any bugs when they launch a product through Billion $ marketing, to evoke a widespread adoption of companies to use WP8 devices with their employees.
Anyways, hopefully that will be taken care off with time and that too before Apple comes out with a killer device next year! I am here for one thing. Today morning I woke up, and saw another Instagram post (CMON!). Isnt it enough? We, as WP users do not really need it. But we know our friends/family do not want to switch over because WP might not have apps suited to them, which is making them to not switch even if they enjoy the UI and like what MS has done with WP8. But we want them to, we want to somehow convince them to switch over, because the more users jump into this, the more confidence we can provide the developers! Simple as that - it’s a cylce. Has to start somewhere. Developers are not going to develop a product if they cannot monetize their product from Day1!
For this same reason, please let me introduce a Google Doc Spreadsheet (I know, I should not be using Google but then it has a good cloud functionality so that all the users around the world can use this and I do not have access to Office 365, sorry!) - http://goo.gl/6Xz2a
This is simply a petition to raise our voice. The fields are:
- Name (you can keep it blank if you would like to keep your privacy)
- Twitter handle - would be good to know and connect with like minded people)
- WP Central ID - we should have atleast one name to tag you with (either of these 3 or all!)
- Petition for APP development - this is where you write which app you would like to raise your voice for. Write as many as you want, but remember each APP you vote for - please make a separate entry. Do not write names of 4 apps in one go. INDIVIDUAL ENTRY FOR EVERY APP PLEASE!
- Country you are from
- City you are from
EXAMPLE:
- Name: Kavin U. (my name)
- Twitter handle - kavinl
- WP Central ID - nbktonic
- Petition for app dev - Insatgram
- Country - UAE
- City - Dubai.
- Hit Submit
Now if I want to raise my voice for “Mint.com”, I will refollow the above procedure to create a new entry within the spreadsheet file.
I hope this is simple enough. Every thing you share is being saved in a spread sheet file and I think it would be a good idea to give this about 3 months to circulate around the world (gather your friends and family!) - the more involvement we have, the better! Today is 23rd December 2012 (Thank god the world did not end! Screw you Mayan, I wanna play some more with my Yellow Nokia Lumia 920;) ), and I think it would be good to close this on 15th April, 2013.
Guys, if you think this has to be revised in any ways, please let me know latest within a day - since I am leaving for holidays.
At the end, I will filter down responses with drop down menus and submit the voice to individual development teams so that they can understand the market and hopefully decide to work on developing favorite apps for all of us! - 12-23-2012, 12:44 AM #24
You have to give it time for these types of apps. People aren't quick to jump on making an app for WP.
(RANDOM)
When I asked when a certain website was going to make an app for WP (a few months ago), a ***** that was supposedly customer service replied with something along the lines of "Never, because Windows Phone sucks or is *****"
Very professional.
