Hi. I need an chat like app that android also has. The other party that I want to text / chat to has 200 messages a month per person which is a small amount. I have the g chat free version, but I need something that is a live tile. That shows the amount of messages that need to be checked ( like the live tile for text messages ) . I have a Samsung Focus Flash. If there is a partial message from the person on the lock screen, that is also acceptable.

    Thanks in advance.

I have found IM+ and jiTalk to be the two most reliable chat apps. Both support Google, which I'm assuming you want since you mentioned gchat.

We use GroupMe, it has live tile support and is cross OS. It also has a web application.

Most people use Whatsapp, it uses your phone contacts so no need to sign up

You don't have to sign up with group me either. I also think that group me has a cleaner UI ( windows phone ) .

GroupMe also has a web application and can be used on a tablet.

In our experience the app works the best on Android, then iOS, and then WP but it works.

it also has an SMS option which works great with unlimited messaging.
