I have a L920 and I have downloaded about 2000 songs to it directly from the phone. I just bought a new laptop, running W8, and I cant figure out how to get the songs to appear and play in the W8 music app. I have transferred the songs from my phone into the default music folder, using the WP app in W8, and they will not play in the Music app. They also wont play using Windows media player. I'm getting a error message saying "Cant play, cant complete your request. please sing in and try again. error code 0xc101a24b. It also says something about media rights issues, but I do have a valid Xbox music pass. WTF!

I just don't understand why I cant just hook my WP8 device into my W8 computer and all of my music will just start to sync using the music app.. This is how Zune worked! I expect to be able to download a song from my phone, then connect it to my computer and W8 automatically sync it into the Music app. What am I doing wrong????

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?????

There is a setting in the Win8 Xbox Music app to "Automatically download to computer" any songs you add to your phone. I find this works best.

I believe xbox music must be managed through a PC or RT. So if you download a song on your phone, it doesn't flow back to w8 or rt devices. It needs be downloaded from w8 or rt then it flows to your phone.

Now i never tried downloading on my phone and then putting the file onto PC, but if you have to manage xbox music through w8/rt, perhaps that doesnt work.

The way it has only worked me to get everythign synced was to add an album or download an album on my surface RT, then my phoen will recognize, but it would be on cloud. Then i would have to select to download on my phone.

NOw this is my experience, but i couldn't find a way through my xbox music account to have the music on my phone flow to the PC/RT. It only went PC/RT to phone.

There is no way to cable sync with Xbox music, that works anyway. Best option, download songs on phone like you did. Like previously mentioned, set PC to auto download songs from your other devices or from cloud. Make sure you have Xbox music cloud turned on for phone and the phone and PC must be on the same MS account. Also mentioned earlier, wp8 has very limited options. You really need to have a win8 pc or RT to manage music. Now, once things are talking and syncing, you should see in upper right on computer 2000 songs downloading in a little box. And it will take a while. Its kind of pathetic that MS didn't come up with a how to vid for Xbox music. I spent two weekends getting mine cleared up. Its great now other than the occasional rights usage issue, but it sucked trying to figure out their bass ackwards process.

And if you load any of your own music onto pc, their is a whole new headache of getting it synced properly to cloud so phone can pull songs. Some songs sync and some require you to match and sync manually. Beating!!!!

Slide in from right to get charms bar. Settings and preferences. Its about 2/3 of the way down. Read the options. They all do something a little different and depending on your situation, you may not want all of them. I have all mine enabled and 920, Surface RT and Vaio all stay up to date.
