    Hi guys,
I'm new to the windows phone 8 scene but I really like what I've seen so far. I come from a long history of android devices and really like the fresh interface on the HTC 8X that I picked up to experiment with. Couple quick questions.......

Is theHTC 8X the best handset option for a verizon customer? So far I'm pretty impressed with it but wasn't sure what other options were out there. I looked at the Nokia 822 but didn't like the low res display. What about the Nokia 920? Is there any way to make it compatible with Verizon's network?

This one is a little more advanced. Is anyone hacking these handsets and doing custom roms, themes, overclocking etc.?

    Any advice/info is greatly apprecitated!
    Thanks,
    Eric

There is a 920 variant coming soon to Verizon but no one knows when. Both the 822 and 8X are great phones and each have their own pros and cons.

I had the 822 and now have the 8X. The 8X has better screen, camera and feel in the hand. The 822 has expandable storage and Nokia apps. I prefer the 8X, but if 16Gb isn't enough or you like the Nokia apps go with the 822. Either way both are good phones.

WP8 uses UEFI Secure Boot. As of now, nobody's figured out how to crack it, so there are no custom ROM options for WP8 yet. That's one of the reasons I'm sticking with my Trophy (WP7) for now. I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but it could be a while.

Hard question. If you are not in a hurry I would tell you to wait for the Nokia 928 or whatever is coming. So.. wait for that.

If you can't wait.. well I would tell you to still wait...

If you REALLY can't wait I will say this. How long do you plan on keeping your phone? If you plan on keeping it for the bulk of your two year contract, then personally I would lean towards the 822. The longer you have a phone, the more chance you will get to a point where the battery might start sucking. With the 822 you can replace it. You also might get to a point where the 16GB storage on the 8X gets full... the 822 has expandable storage.

If you're someone who will buy it outright, or look to upgrade in 6 months or a year, then the 8X might be just fine. I have both the Galaxy S3 and the Nokia 822. The resolution of the 822 does not bug me, FWIW.

Or you can wait for the 928. :)

Thanks guys for the info! Much appreciated.
I move around from phone to phone quite often so the fixed battery of the 8x isn't that much of a concern. And the relative lack of apps kinda puts the memory thing in check as well. So I guess I'll hold out until the 928 appears. If I can come across a used 822 for a good price, I might take it for a test spin to check it out.

I will say that I'm quite enamoured with the WP8 platform. I can't wait until the ecosystem expands!!
