    I went to settings and on a lark clicked check for updates. To my surprise it listed the following update items:

    Microsoft Update 8.0.10211.204
    Microsoft Update 8.0.9908.15
    Microsoft Update 8.0.9906.13
    Nokia Update for Windows Phone
    <there was one more Microsoft Update that I missed recording>

    I'm now on Step 1 of 4 on "Migrating your data"

    yeah... if you have the automatically begin installing option checked you'll get such surprises. Fortunately this one is the good kinda surprise.
