    I'm trying to get my WP8 app (One of the first new apps to take advantage of speech features in WP) past certification.... it's taken 4 days already, out of the 5 max. Are there really that many apps being published to the store?

    It has traditionally taken a week. Apps are manually certified, unlike on Android where they pass through some automated procedures then are immediately published. You'll find that Apple developers have similar problems, though to an even larger extent - there are reports of certification taking over two weeks to get past Apple.
