Coming from android, one thing I liked on it I cant find out how to do. I had a shortcut to wife's cell# and home on start screen. Made it easy while in car to just push icon and not search contacts. Is this possible on WP8? or is there another easy way?

Wow, searched google and found the siri equivalent. I did not know holding the Windows button brought up voice assist. Damn they should advertise that..or maybe they did and I just didn't see ;)

Find them in the people hub, then long-press on their entry. You should get the option to pin them to the start screen as a live tile. This tile will show their picture and status updates etc.
