No news about a integrated/3th party SIP client for VoIP calls?
Appears that in wp7 a free (not bounded to specific provider) client was never available, also in the wp8 SDK VoIP will be supported but since far I can't find in the marketplace any such app and also no mention in the OS specs...
I have a free sip client in my Symbian based Nokia since 2007...hope will find one in wp8!
I use it with my local ISP for landline calls.Last edited by davide445; 11-13-2012 at 08:23 AM.

As I know Skype never allowed to configure for free SIP parameters.
In PC version you need to install Skype Connect, that request to pay a fee for specific countries.
No idea if this will be also available on the wp8 version, but sure will be not free.Last edited by davide445; 11-13-2012 at 05:13 AM.

Checking more on this topic I find this interesting answers from Nokia support
Nokia Support Discussions - API support to SIP softclients - Nokia Support Discussions
His link to WP dev summit video report that VoIP is integrated in wp8 and any developer can access to OS API to create a SIP client, VoIP calls will be managed as any standard voice call.
So, apart from a possible ostracism from Microsoft that might want to push his proprietary service aka Skype, or limitations of branded phones that will not apply to my new HTC 8S I will wait for a new app, since there are no more tech limitations and any other OS (iOS, Android, even BB) have one generic SIP solution.
Maybe a MS reference implementation ;)? - 12-20-2012, 03:03 PM #5
I'm looking forward for that day when MS will provide a reference implementation.
For now, we get only commercial bs and that is upsetting. Personally, having a sip client to connect to my own services is a top priority. Hence, the nice hardware that I'm sampling will go back to the store until the next iteration of WP, be it 9-10 or whatever.
Btw, I did find an app advertising the ability to connect to preferred SIP services - OctroTalk with VoIP. Did anyone test w/ a custom SIP account? I wasn't able to make it work. - 12-24-2012, 03:54 PM #7
i was able to configure and connect ...it works, however the sound quality not so good due to the fact that the sound comes from the loud speaker rather that the earpiece. also the program is very basic once you enter your config values you can not edit you have to delete and re enter your stuff again. i still give them credit for trying and i am sure an update will come sooner or later and make the app much better, till that day i am returning my beautiful Lumia 920 back to ATT. if anyone needs help with configuration please send me an email here wnugud@msn.com
