The question, If you could produce a series of Windows Phone TV spots, how would you do it? Would you showcase or lead with the phone or the apps on the phone? Must choose one.

My vote would have to be the apps. Popular and well known titles like Facebook, USAtoday, Time Mobile, Nokia Drive, Hotmail, Ebay, Youtube and the Huffington Post. I'm a big fan of Listronic and games like Words with Friends. (coming soon to Nokia 900) Showcase all of that on Windows Phone rather than pushing the idea of live tiles first.

My thinking is, people need to see themselves doing what they do daily and seeing it get done using Windows Phone. I think it will take a lot of the mystery out of the device and foster interest. I mean with all due respect to Ben Rudolph, the Smoked by Windows Phone thing is cool but beyond that its largely a sideshow since there is hardly a race for a majority of people using smart phones to speed post images to Facebook. It just has to be able to do it easily and we win.

I would show off the built in apps and how they make life easier to integrate into your daily life. I would also show off the types of apps that people use and how much easier and better they are on WP.

There was a recent article about how the WP7 version of a large number of apps was better looking.

Make an advert based on that. Show just how stylish WP7 is, make people hate the apps they use, because they are ugly.

The phone is great the apps will follow later. Honestly how many people use more than 20 apps on a regular basis? Or 50apps.

I say both, but like someone mentioned, the main feature I'd tote is the integrated apps/features with the tagline stating how fast it is to get things done

The apps.
IMO, if they're going to push this as smartphone, then the buyers will expect the "expansion option" they have instead of the built in features. That's regardless of how much they'll be using it. It's like hoarder mentality, it feels good to know they're there when you need it someday.

Present the phone as a better way to reach that goal instead of the main selling point.

He always does that, don't think he's ever said anything positive. That being said all the apps I have on my HD7 most definitely look better than the Android counterparts.

WP needs to have the top 50 apps that people use. Not just a similar app that does the same thing. name brands drive downloads and sales of phones.

The phone's OS is what sets it apart from the rest. The apps still need improvement, and will hopefully see that with WP8. It's the phone's experience which makes it...not an app. IMO
