I'm new to WP7, so I don't know if I have to go to Settings and look for an update, or if the unit will inform me automatically.

How does it work? Thanks!

You will get a message on your phone telling you that there is an update available and prompting you to connect your phone to your PC.

You'll get a gray message box with an OK button that says something along the lines of "An update is available for you Phone. Please connect to Zune Desktop". It'll pop up automatically out of the blue. For NoDo I got it pretty much within an hour of WPCentral's announcement that AT&T devices were seeing NoDo.
