Pretty standard. I like the home screen but I feel like the "other" apps could go somewhere better than just a list. I don't know any other good apps to get.My apps are on JMTK Application Development

I'm too lazy to post my file start screen, so here's the stuff above the fold:
Phone | Messaging
Personal Email | Business Email
Calendar
Music+Videos | Internet Explorer
I created a few rules for myself which keeps my start screen logical (for me) and fresh, such as
1. Regardless of the fact that I don't make many calls, the Phone/Dialer must be "above the fold" and in the same spot. First and foremost, it's still a phone and the dialer should be in an easy-to-reach spot.
2. Most frequently-used apps go to the top of the screen. After that, apps are segregated by types (weather, news, images).
3. I'm a little more flexible with live tile apps, especially photo live tile apps. I put at least one for every six tiles so I'm pretty much always looking at something fresh on my homescreen. Constantly-changing images keep the homescreen fresh. Aside from the Pictures Hub, USA Today, Bing Is Beautiful, and Flickr all have great photo live tiles. The Top Tweets portion of the Samsung Now app (Samsung only, sorry) shows a snippet of a random top tweet, something which is fun to check out when I have a few seconds to waste.
4. The last two apps are always Settings and Diagnostics. I usually dive into both pretty frequently, and have them at the bottom for the same reason that the Phone is at the top of my screen.Yes, I'm on Twitter. - 09-12-2011, 12:08 AM #7

I'm a bit OCD with start screens - was the same with my iPhone where I only ever had a grid of 3x4 on the first screen so there was a gap (don't ask me why!).
With WP7, I have 4 x 2 above Pictures, and 4 x 2 underneath. I always have phone, messaging, people, twitter (Rowi), Personal email, work email, RSS (Weave) and IE in the top section for quick access, then Zune, Xbox Live, BBC News, Your Weather, Bingle maps, Wikipedia, Marketplace and Settings underneath.
When Mango lands, I'll combine the two email accounts leaving me with a spare "hotspot" slot above the Pictures "divider". Most of the time I'll probably have the new connectivity shortcuts app there to flip wifi on/off, but if I'm e.g. in London for the day I'll probably swap it out for London Travel.
Funnily enough, this is one of the many reasons why I dislike Android - you can't organise anything nearly as well. Widgets can be any shape/size, with no uniformity or consistent design to them, you can have widgets AND icons but the icons show no info, and it takes 7 screens to display the information I can see in one. - 09-15-2011, 12:43 AM #23
