I downloaded Zune software, but I don't see an app store...

click on marketplace at the top, and then apps is the last selection

You can search apps without Zune by using BING's Visual Search (just search Windows Phone 7 apps and click Visual Search) or go to either WP7Applist.com or MarketplaceBrowser.com.
Both websites have a listing of most (if not all) of the apps available for WP7.
