Hello, I am trying to remove the primary email address I used (hotmail) when I setup the phone. I just used that address to transfer the contacts to my phone from a Blackberry. Now, I want to remove it so I can change it to the Windows Live ID that is tied to my gamertag on Xbox Live. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I thought I read somewhere that once you setup that initial account, you can't delete it. You can do a factory reset, then sign in first with your Live ID. Then add your hotmail account to get your contacts.

I needed to do this. All my searching pointed to having to do a hard reset in order to change the Windows Live email address.

It's possible to do this by modifying a registry key (or provisioning file) and avoid a hard reset:
Change a primary account user name - xda-developers
Of course, your device needs to be dev unlocked.
