I've actually been wondering when someone was going to do something like this for a while. Making the sensor has been possible for years, and the rest is just a matter of making it possible for a general mobile CPU/GPU to work on all that sensor data without having the need of an expensive dedicated image processor.
It would be fun to give it a shot to see how it works in practice. :) - 02-27-2012, 12:33 PM #11
but wait is that 41Mpix camera coming to WP or is this just off topic?

It's not really WP related, but would be rather fun if it pops up in a WP later down the line. :)

Man, I can't wait until Apollo is out.
I don't care if Nokia brings 41 mpx to their high end Apollo handset. But I do want the same tech in there. Also with their sound recording. Wow.
If Nokia's follow up to the Lumia 900 has just a 16 mpx camera with the same type of technology I'd be happy.
Not sure if the huge lens would bug me or not. Though I imagine I could live with it. - 02-27-2012, 02:01 PM #14

What do you mean?
Nokia already promised one last Symbian device. This is their last hurrah for those customers.
Right now, WP7.5 doesn't allow Nokia the ability to add these kinds of special hardware features. And they probably think that Apollo is too far off to hype anything about it yet. So this wasn't something that Nokia did to us. It's just something they did FOR their current and loyal Symbian customers.
Remember that not too long ago, Elop stated that Nokia wasn't going to be announcing phones until they were close to release.
The competition out there is fierce. And they, along with MS, are likely keeping things close to the vest for now. - 02-27-2012, 02:23 PM #16
Last year phones like the Samsung S, where shown at MWC at least for a little bit. Where are Windows Phone news? I don't think Apollo is even real now.

Winning Guy
Exactly.
This is coming to Apollo, Harlow made it clear on the announcement saying this will come to other platforms. This is technology Nokia has been working for 5 years, they are not going throw it away after one Symbian phone.
It's a technology and brand that will come to Apollo when the hardware allows it. Without doubt it's part of the Apollo thing we heard about OEM's being able to change quite a bit on the camera department. - 02-27-2012, 04:43 PM #18
I really wish it would be on a WP, but I am sure it will down the road. For now, I am going to get it. I am pretty use to Symbian^3 from my N8.

Can you imagine if Nokia show this as a Windows Phone. Oh we will all be so estactic right now. There's no doubt about it, this phone was the most impressive phone on the whole thing.

I'm excited because I know that it will eventually make its way to Windows Phone.
I don't need instant gratification since I'm still on contract until the end of the year.
But what this might do is make me wait if the WP8 launch devices don't have it. - 02-27-2012, 05:37 PM #23
I do need instant Gratification. Not announcing a Windows Phone version ( he.ck show a photoshop or something) is just bad taste.
My carrier step their game on so I have Bars and internet at my job right now so I don't see myself leaving until next year but I don't want Windows Phone to become THAT low end system. Windows Phone isn't Bada, is the third OS and Microsoft should treat with respect. - 02-27-2012, 05:41 PM #24
All this is strategic.
There needs to be news that can trickle out throughout the year to keep mindshare. Especially as we get closer to WP8 launch. If they tell us everything right now, you'll be sitting here a few months from now complaining about how there's no new information and everything released is stuff you already know. - 02-27-2012, 05:45 PM #25
That didn't happened with Mango, I felt like every other week we learn of a new feature. Now Apollo is so missing in action I doubt it's even real. Samsung is nowhere to be seen either.
I just have this bad taste in my mouth, my gut is telling me that Microsoft is going to pull a Zune HD and let the thing die. I don't want Windows Phone to die, I can't see myself using another OS.
