    Yes, Pro needs an antivirus program, so I loaded the one from work, 64bit SEP.
    Now it is a loop restarting. no way out.

    CORRECTION: SEP version12R3 will support windows 8, this is the update from Symantec.

    Have you tried booting in safe mode and uninstalling SEP? Also, are you using the latest AV build? We use Kaspersky business, and they only just updated compatibility for win8.

    I was able to recover, tried safe mode, it has a bit different recover mode. Safe mode did not work.

    So I did a refresh, it removed SEP. and still maintianed all my apps, and docs. This Surface is so kewl.

    No, Pro does NOT need antivirus. It already has Windows Defender/Security Essentials built in. Norton, especially is a scam.

    Very true...Windows 8 includes Windows Defender...which is MS Security Essentials for Windows 8.

    Agreed...I have MS Security Essentials/Defender on multiple PCs. All have remained virus free.
