Will there be a way to keep the Surface Pro connected to the Type/Touch Cover and charging at the same time, like you would with a laptop?

Yes, just like you can on the Surface RT. It doesn't matter what position the keyboard and Surface are in - as long as it's attached to the power cord it will charge.

I was under the impression that the charging port was also the Cover connector, but it sounds like I was mistaken. Thanks for clearing that up.

They are both magnets so that may be what threw you off, but the cover is located on the long side (bottom) while the charging port is located on the adjacent shorter side (right) assuming you are looking at it with the windows button at the bottom.

You can't, however, charge the device while the pen is attached to the side because the pen attaches to the power port.
