So I really don't have a reason to turn off 3G but I always see you guys talking about turning it off and on. Wondering how you do this on the Focus just for knowledge reasons I suppose. I don't see it under options anywhere so I am assuming it's somewhere under diagnostics??
Anyone want to enlighten me please? - 06-08-2011, 02:45 AM #2
afaik you need to dev unlock your device to get access to the 3g on/off option.
out of the box, you can only turn data on and off (3g and edge)
if this isn't accurate, please correct me. :) - 06-08-2011, 06:23 AM #3
Adiliyo is correct. Can't do it with a regular Focus.

So after you dev unlock, what do you do to turn off 3G. Is it a reg setting or diagnostics? I have a dev unlocked Surround and have tried everything to turn off 3G with no success. Installed Schapmans ACT and have the 3G toggle, but it does not do anything, like it does not stick after exit. Have also browsed the registry but don't see any key to change it. Do I hae to add a new key?

it's a reg setting for the focus:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Connectivity\CellularCPL
Show3GToggle
dword: 1
i would assume it would work for htc devices as well, but you never know... - 06-08-2011, 09:47 PM #7
that turns off both 3g and the edge connection, by using the registry edit, you can turn off 3g, but leave edge on
it's useful in places where the 3g connection is weak, then you can force it to use the stronger edge connection and stop searching for a better 3g signal, thus improving battery life. - 06-08-2011, 10:46 PM #8Nokia Lumia 900 - OS: 7.10.8112.7 - Firmware: 2175.1002.8112.12084

Thanks. Think I saw this on XDA as well but wanted to confirm. When I went to that key, Schapmans Reg Editor listed the key as unavailable. I tried adding the key anyway but it did not save, so basically disappeared after I entered it. Surprising as Reg Editor is supposed to work on all HTac devices. Posted the same question at TouchXperience. Maybe Schapman will comment.
