Still around $300 cheaper than the Iphone 5. Most high end phones start at around $900-$1000.

Same site has the Iphone 5 (16gig) listed at Regular Price: $1,849.00
    Sale Price: $1,459.00

I am guessing that these prices are in NZD? If so that would equate to around $729 USD. Not bad for a unlocked/unbranded smartphone.

it is. we charge twice the amount of the normal price for broadband and and a Samsung galaxy S3 is $1000+ and a MS surface 32GB in NZ will very likely cost $900+

Considering how limited the Focus S was in it's release, I am just glad to see Samsung releasing it's WP8 internationally. It is still an overall good sign, even if it is a little pricey.
