IMO its a little too minimalistic and strikes me as a bit odd looking but I don't know why...

The reason they chose one color is so it can always match the user's theme--something we WP users should be used to. I must say that this isn't my favorite design I've ever seen. I would have much preferred a flat window over this awkward angle (which is actually pretty sad to realize).

Honestly though, I really just want to know how this will affect the WP logo, as it is a tile with the old XP logo inside.

Yeah, lots of mixed opinions on the new design. I don't mind the window over flag choice its just the color and angle. I agree with Figure 8 Dash that it looks better flipped

To me it, with the window diminishing to the left it just looks like a backwards arrow. At the very least it should be pointing forwards.

Otherwise I like it. I like that it will fit with the theme colour of the user; and, well I'm just a sucker for the Segoe font.
