Hey, guys! Nokia just sent me a brand new Lumia 920 straight from Finland, but it appears to be locked to AT&T.

I'm in Canada and we don't have AT&T here. I called AT&T and they've told me it's illegal to get the phone unlocked. I was shocked.

What is there to do? I'm a Canadian! :(

How is it possible that a Finnish 920 was sold locked to ATT? Regardless, there was no point to your contacting ATT. You're not their customer.

It is perfectly legal to unlock phones in Canada. Try cellunlocker.net.

Cell Unlocker told me they can do nothing about it because it's locked to AT&T and they can't do anything about it.

I've contacted the Nokia Rep through email and await her email. But I'm afraid she'll tell me she can't do anything about it...

Is there an AT&T logo anywhere on the phone? Is any carrier logo displayed on screen when booting up the phone?

Which Canadian carrier are you using for your cell service?

i messaged AT&T too. the worst case scenario is you'll have to wait till june. that's when the ATT exclusivity will end. why did you buy an ATT why didnt you just buy a roger's one? try selling it and buy a rogers/bell one?

Just contacted Nokia, they said they will sort out the issue. Hopefully they can send me an unlock code! :) It's a beautiful white phone! It'd be a shame if I had to return it and receive a black rogers one. :(

You can forget about getting it unlocked right now.
You can either be patient and wait for AT&T to give you the unlock which they willdo when they decide - or sell.

Went through this with a 900 and got it but it took months and no amount of badgering AT&T made it any sooner.

No thirdparty unlockers had codes either although they boasted they did.

Ouch. That's harsh. As much as I hate the idea of giving Rogers any of my hard earned money, the Nokia 920 has tempted me a few times. The color selection around my area is pretty dismal as well.

Actually I got what I considered to be a great package from Rogers and left Telus after 20 plus years and haven't looked back at all.

That would have been the red flag right there. Major bummer. I hope that they send you a new one.

I'm particularly interested in this scenario, because I was tempted to contact Nokia and ask if I could buy an unlocked 920 directly from them due to the Rogers exclusivity deal which has prevented me from getting a 920.

Downside: I think it's going to be black and not another colour. :( :( :( I hope I'm wrong though.

That is good for you and great for Noiai to do that.

Rogers isn't as selfish as they will unlock for $50 in most cases but I had a third party unlock in 24hrs for $25.

Just curious if you are feeling better about Nokia's customer service now. I see on this thread you started, you were pretty upset with them. Hopefully your current experience with Nokia has had a better outcome.

I am a little suprised that you bought a 920 considering your Nokia Customer Service experience and since you stated "your phone suffers from every single bug out there related to the Nokia 900". Who knows, maybe they sent you one for free. Wouldn't suprise me.

Do you still use or have your 900? Were the issues resolved with it?

I am glad you stuck with Nokia and Window Phone in the end.

if you really want to get another colour you can get a housing in another colour and swap it.. it's very easy.

Why did you say "Rest of World" edition Lumia 920 which is unlocked will only be in black?
I am using a red unlocked NL920 right now. And all NL920 selling in my country are unlocked and coloured.
Just curious.
