My 920 on Orange UK (EE) has just picked up a smallish system update. No idea what yet (I'm already Portico'd) watching cogs turn as we speak. More to follow...

Almost certain it only said a system update on the toast, not a name.

I also installed this update few hours ago. It is only firmware update not OS. Version number is 1232.5951.1249.1018. Previous one was 1017.
cannot see much changes, may be a minor update before the major one...

apparently someone (look in the forum threads) was told by P4U that the portico update (v1017) was halted because there were problems, so I guess that v1018 fixes whatever problems that were present in the previous version

But it is under TescoMobile. My OS version is 8.0.9903.10 and Firmware Revision #: 1232.2110.1244.3011

I had only once, had a phone update, but unfortunately, I did not check to see what were the firmware numbers then. However, when I was looking for the Beta version of Nokia "Play To" to download, I found out that the firmware has to be a higher version, i.e. something like 1232.5k... I tried to update mine, but it comes back after checking with "your phone is up to date, checked 2 seconds ago". So I called Phones4U, to see if they know anything about it. The technical help said that they rolled out a new version (which i presume it must have been portico), but they had to roll it back as it has caused signal as well as call cut-offs and freezes. So they are not rolling it out till Nokia releases a fix.

So, according to Phones4U, my phone is up to date! But I am still suffering from heating issues on media playback (super hot!) and also battery life, which lasts about 7-8 hours!
A friend of mine bought his 920 from Vodafone, and his version was 1232.5k.. type, and it worked for good 24 hours on one charge. However, after 4 days he returned it, due to call drop outs and screen freeze on screen pull up on the On-Off screen! So I guess, it is lucky that I'm still on the older firmware! I hope Nokia/MS sort this out quick as the battery is really testing my patience... I am admiring the news of the Galaxy S4 coming out, when I can't do the basic with this one!

    New details:

    Old OS: 8.0.10211.204
    Old FW: 1232.5951.1249.1018

Hope it helps the battery - I am getting about 18-20 hrs light use. Any kind of browsing, media play back and it goes down to 6-7 hrs (MAX).

Absolutely LOVE this phone, battery life extension would make it THE perfect phone.

Hmm, interesting. My Dutch black 920 is at .1249.1004 (not .1017).

Quick question regarding the new firmware: did you previously had crashes? And is there any difference now?

Not sure what such a small update would feature, but if it fixes the most important thing most 920 owners are having in the Netherlands (the regular crashes) it would be very nice. I myself don't have any crashes, but i could imagine others do.

So far after 6 days (only) I have not had any crashes or any problems other than fast battery drain (although don't know if it is normal - advice on battery saving has been followed).
I used to use an iphone4 which had a better battery life but in all other respects is completely overshadowed by the Lumia 920. My ip4 now looks and feels like a piece of garbage. By the way you cannot tell the weight difference between the iphone4 and the 920... heard a lot of rubbish about the 920 being too heavy. It is not at all.

I have Battery Monitor on my phone so will be watching closely after this update...

    Are you on EE, UK?

    Check manually in settings.

Also, OP - could I request you to change the subject of this thread, by editing first post, then advanced edit : To Orange (EE) Firmware update 1018 or something?

No, I bought it unlocked in Germany. Still don't understand this arbitrary distribution of updates though :(

It's arbitrary because unlike Apple there are different hardwares, with different capabilities, on different carriers, in different countries and different continent. Also, by "rolling out" updates, Microsoft makes sure that it can halt the update process if things go wrong with the first user group e.g. WP7.8 rollout is on halt after finding out live tile issues. This way not everyone will be affected and hence lesser dissatisfied customers. So all in all, you will get the update, it's nothing major, but it will roll out on time. However, by end of this month all WP should have got Portico according to the roll out schedule.

Anyone who reads this thread and HAS NOT updated to this one, before you do - could you please check if under cellular, data roaming options, under the drop down you have the following text:
"When entering a roaming area, your data connection will be turned off."

I am sure I never noticed this before the update and it never disconnects the data as I went to Paris few weeks back and was able to use the data connection!

No, sorry, the option is still there in 1017. It shows up when Data Roaming is turned off.

Hey - I think this update has fixed the wi-fi issue... My wi-fi is now always on and does not drop when the screen turns off and locks...

    Can someone else please check?

EDIT : Oh b***** no it doesn't - still switches off after a minute or so in lock :(

EDIT EDIT : There is now an option under wi-fi settings to keep Wi-Fi on when screen times out.... it does work.. left on lock screen for 10 mins and still on
