Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 v Nokia 620 (updated 18/02/13)
Very unscientific and amateur test, but hopefully has some value, at least to me anyway.
Thought I'd pop out tonight and compare my Nokia 920 against my new 650D.
Took a couple on my Mums Nokia 620 to compare a cheap PAYG phone to them aswell.
All pics take in night mode and with NO flash.

The 620 pic of the front was so blurred, I deleted it, I guess I should have included it for completeness.
It was proper dark, and a black car doesn't help.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place btw.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks a lot for the comparison pics. Also, is it the Canon 650 or 620? You keep saying 620 in the posts.

The 620 is the Lumia 620. The Canon 650 is the SLR ;)
Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the comparison. The Canon 650 definitely took the best pictures, but the 920 didn't do too bad! Except in that last pic, it was pretty blurry.

Hi and welcome to WPCentral.
That's a good thread to start. I always like to see when users do reviews/comparisons, not just professionals on tech blogs.

Thanks, I must of missed that in the post. Of course, that's what I get for browsing WPCentral half awake, lol.

Surprising good pics by Lumia 620 ...

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight
hello do you half press your lumia 920 when taking shots?
-
Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight
Thanks for the good feedback, didn't know if anyone else would be interested. :-)
I don't half press the camera button, I had tried it before , but found I got too much camera shake, so I just tap the screen.
I will try using the camera button again next time.
If I get chance today I was going to take some daylight comparisons before my Mum wants her phone back.;-)
BTW, the Canon 650 had the kit lense on it.

According to this article
Nokia Lumia 920 Photo guide: How to make the most of your camera | Windows Phone Central
Quote:
The Lumia 920 will focus on the center area if you press the shutter button half-way. Once you hear the beep confirming focus, press the shutter button the rest of the way to capture the photo. You can also activate the shutter by tapping on the screen. Where you tap is where the center of focus will be. Tap the screen, the Lumia 920 achieves focus and snaps the picture. Between the shallow depth of field and selective focus, you can create some nice effects with the camera. You can focus on the image in the foreground and a secondary subject in the background will be out of focus. Or you can do the opposite and have the object in the background out of focus.
I think it might improve the photos, especially in the last shot of lumia 920 which is too blurred.

Is it only me or does the 620's look sharper than 920's?

I was thinking that too, especially in the day time shots.

To be honest I had to double check the EXIF information when I transferred them to my PC to upload, to make sure I had them right. :-S
I didn't think the results would be so similar before I started.

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
I've got the 620 until next week when my Mum comes up to collect it, so if anyone has got any type of picture request to compare, feel free to let me know. :-)

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
620 cam is a beast, but why is the lumia 920 producing different colors compared to 620 and 650d?

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
I actually think the 920 did better in the cat shot, or at least where it focused, the cats eyes look a lot sharper (and cooler!) on the 920 than the 620 and the SLR surprisingly!

Close-up shots of smaller items, please? :)

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
This thread is a great one - thanks sk1d_mark ... honestly, I prefer Lumia 920 daylight photos over Canon 650 SLR - it is a real surprise :) ... but for low light photos, Canon 650 beats Lumia 920, but is it surprise at all ?

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
Tried some close ups tonight and was more tricky than I thought, some of the pics looked OK on the phone, but out of focus on my laptop, so had to take lots more until I got some on each device.
First up, I don't have a macro lense for the 650D, so took one at a distance for colour reference, as the colour was a match.
Next, I included the wife Radar running 7.8 just for a comparison.
Lastly, I think the 620 took a better pic of the flower, slightly sharper and a better colour match.
650D for colour reference only.

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 test tonight (added daylight pics)
Just wondering why a connector of PCB is unsharp in Lumia 920 photos, I think that I have not seen that in my close up photos, so is it something to do with an distance (a distance limit of close up photos) or is it possible that a camera lens was not really clean (sorry that I write that, but I am just curious to understand why that connector is unsharp in Lumia 920 photos) ...

because OP has both phone focus on different part.

Re: Hello, and my Nokia 920 v Canon 650 v Nokia 620 (updated 18/02/13)
Sorry for the differences in the close-ups , its was much harder than I thought it would be, not easy keeping 3 cats from wanting to be in the picture too.
