Hi there,
I want to buy a lumia 920 but in white. The phone is unfortunately branded (with whatever that means) but I don't think it's locked. I'm not sure though. From my experience with android it can be unlocked but branded or locked and branded. It can be both anyway. In my case here let's suppose it's branded but unlocked.
So what are the advantages of unbranded over branded lumia 920 phones?
Also is there a way to debrand should I want? - 02-06-2013, 02:48 AM #2
Branded probably means it has the carrier i.e. Att on the phone near Nokia branding. Unbranded phones do not have the carrier logos.
You can probably find unlocked carrier branded phones however unbranded phones are better because i think they tend to get updated fast than branded phones because if you have an unlocked branded phone the software upgrades still come from the carrier. - 02-06-2013, 04:44 AM

Well my main concern here is not the simlock. I know it is sim free.
I just wanted to know what more can a debranded phone offer. Why should I aim for one?
also from what I see branded phones got portico faster than unbranded - 02-06-2013, 04:47 AM #5

For me, I'm based in Asia and in my country, it's ILLEGAL to sell locked phones. But my previous Lumia 820 was branded software wise, with a Telco splash screen during boot. The closest thing you'll get to physical branding is a sticker on the device that can be torn off.
But there's really no difference. We still only get updates when our Telco pushes them. Unbranded devices are also usually the last few to get the updates, no idea why (in this case, it's scheduled for Feb-Mar Portico). - 02-06-2013, 09:54 AM #7
Really an unbranded phone isn't that much different from a branded phone. It just has no carrier details on the phone.
