All of the third party styli have giant tips on them, but given the more sensitive touchscreen on the Lumia 920, isn't a smaller stylus possible?

A smaller tip isn't going to give you any better accuracy. Capacitive touchscreens are like that.

Out of curiosity, is there a way - software wise - to lock the screen to a single capacitive touch-point? I feel as though that might give some semblance of writing capabilities on capacitive touchscreens. Maybe design a stylus that connects to the phone via BT, and when activated (with an app running in the background on the phone), locks the screen to that lone stylus.
