Well, It finally happened. After having my naked white Lumia 900 since launch, I finally managed to break the screen. The cracks aren't that noticable but it still bugs me. I contacted at&t to see about using insurance to replace it, but turns out it would cost $120 for a new one. I was pretty frustrated because the phone was pretty much free and new customers can have it for a dollar! I'm not due for an upgrade until November 2013.
What do you guys think I should do? - 11-20-2012, 03:36 PM #2
A cracked screen would drive me insane.
You could try contacting Nokia and see if it's cheaper to get it replaced through them."Engineering is more than just the number of megapixels." - Stephen Elop - 11-20-2012, 03:44 PM #3

Nice, I might try to go for the early upgrade. Especially with all the holiday sales going on... It'd be awesome if I could get the 920 for the 49.99 sale price.

Good point, I didn't really think about all of the fees. But if I'm going to pay $120, I'd rather spend it on a 920 instead of a 900. I just wish people would just give me things.. Why can't I just have everything I want? My life is so hard, guys.

The early upgrade for me was $250, but I got them to waive the fee. You have to call and have them put it in the notes and go to a corporate store.

Same thing happened to me.
I bought a 920, got the early upgrade and never looked back. I loved my 900, but there was NO way I was going to sink $100+ into it to fix the screen when the 920 was right there in the store making bedroom eyes at me. LOL - 11-23-2012, 10:26 AM

Haha, still carrying around a cracked phone... Been looking around for 920's on craigslist. I'd rather keep my upgrade because I'm sure there will be a bigger and better Lumia by November 2013.

Users is it worth taking out insurance on a 900? (cost is $6.99 a month) from ATT

I honestly don't think it's worth it to pay for insurance on the 900. I'm thinking about cancelling. Should I?

retail insurance/extended warranty is a crock. Just take care of your stuff and when accidents happen you suck it up for the one time it happened. ie: If you damage one out of every 3 phones, then was it worth getting the insurrance on those 3 phones to pay for the one? If you can't afford $200....seriously you can't afford this level of phone.

I guess that depends on how often you drop your phone.

I canceled the insurance on my 900 for a couple of reasons. AT&T charges anywhere between $100-$150 for repairs. That's not too far off from used prices. Plus, the price of used 900s continues to drop because the 920 is out. Also, Nokia's 1-year warranty still has several months left. I'd rather have Nokia fix my phone for free than pay AT&T. Finally, if I break the device outside of Nokia's warranty then I'll probably just pay to terminate my contract and re-sign so I can get a 920 on the cheap."Engineering is more than just the number of megapixels." - Stephen Elop
