Interesting stuff! As someone who switched from an iPhone 4 to a pre-Mango HTC Mozart, I'll be interested to see how you get on switching to a more advanced device than I settled with.
Incidentally, my bank (Smile) never had a specific iPhone app but their website works fine in IE9. Do HSBC have a web login option?
