It appears there is a light(?) for notifications int he top right corner of the phone. Is this a light, and if so, how do I activate it?

Sorry, but I don't see anything on the top right of my LG Optimus 7. all there is a cluster of sensors on the left side of the LG logo.

That is actually the LG Optimus 7Q aka the LG Quantum (from AT&T) and not the Optimus 7.
Edit: There is no indicator on either the Opt7 or Opt 7Q (quantum)

You sure it's not an ambient light sensor or the proximity sensor?

I would go for the light sensor as well, I'm still waiting for my Optimus7 to be delivered so can not confirm if there is something similar but the light sensor as far as I know is a fairly standard piece of kit on devices now and they can look like a light as such.

It may also be the proximity sensor
