I saw at Best Buy that the Connection Setup app is at 2.6 on the 8X. Phone had no account setup so I couldn't download the app. Can anyone confirm that this version has built in settings for Straight Talk? I would be pretty ticked if they included this in the WP8 version but didn't update the WP7.x version of the app.

Yup the connection setup on my 8X does have straight talk as an option.

is it just me or does it not work at all for Verizon? - I get 'no sim' errors when I try to run it. Seems to work fine without though, is it really needed?

Ditto. But, like you it seems to work just fine. Not sure what advantage would be gained if the program actually worked.
