1. Before you update make sure you battery is 60% or higher. Better to not charge the phone during the update.
2. Make sure you have 4Gb of free space. Kick out some music and maps if need be.
3. While updating, it will seem to be stuck around 100% for a while... that is normal... it could take up to 15min there... do nothing... let it do its stuff, it will reboot on its own.
4. After the update, if you wish to update your Bing maps, remove them, then install them again, there is a bug in the Bing map auto update after the portico update.

I installed the update with 1GB of free space and it worked fine

The 8S has the update... They will probably allow for a temp file on the MicroSD card.

Not sure about the 4GB's but the space is used for the backup step of the update. Instead of backing everything up on your computer like we did in days of old, the OTA update stores the backup file on your phone.
