    I'd only just noticed today but all my apps aside from Skype have an ugly black border.

    Does having your app upgraded to WP8 guarantee that it will support 720p screen format? Or can developers just be lazy and ignore this.

    As the Nokia 920 is the regular screen format I worry that most devs will code for this.

    I'm sure Microsoft will enforce resolution support for apps to be certified for WP8.

    It's still early but I've seen many developers moving to WP8 and working on updated apps to support WP8 new resolutions and features.

    AFAIK, all new WP8 apps will come HD-optimised, and probably the WP7 and WP8 ones will work on both and w/o the black borders on WP8.
