I got this phone already, all i can say is pictures taken by this phone is decent but you can't compare it to Nokia lumia 620 pictures quality...
The phone works just flaweslly the only bad part is pictures taking by my opinion.

I own htc 8s and i hate the pictures that it makes, it's just awfull compared to nokia lumia 620 or even my oldass sony ericsson c920.
But quality of video is pretty amazing.
I think htc could fix their camera with software tweaks and hdr... But they're too deep in android sea.

Yeah, the camera could be better. I just use the photos for fun, not real vacation images or something. There I have my camera with leica lens for :p But you're right, the quality is a little below avarage, especially compared to the 620.
