FTC: Google to license patents in antitrust case
Below, an interesting snippet of the article:
"Google did agree to license patents deemed to be "essential" for rival mobile devices such as Apple Inc.'s iPhone, Research in Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry and smartphones running on a Microsoft Corp.'s Windows software. Some of the patents in question came as part of Google's $12.4 billion acquisition of device maker Motorola Mobility Holdings earlier this year." - 01-03-2013, 04:10 PM #2
I'm glad the FTC stepped in to keep Google in check. Every giant corporation needs a good slapping around every once in a while.

It's funny that they've gone after them on the (relatively less interesting) patent question and not on the (much more important) search/video/web monopoly question. What Google is doing vis-a-vis locking out Microsoft from access to Gmail and YouTube is quite similar to what the DoJ sued Microsoft over, back in the 1990s.
