It wouldn't play and came up with an error, so I tried deleting it then downloading again, but it had completely disappeared from the store. This has happened to me once before a while back with a different album too. Has anyone else had issues with music being pulled from the store?

The album is "Wicked" (the musical) and I am in Australia, so it could be a local issue with record labels. It wouldn't bother me if this happened a single time with one album, but seeing as this has happened twice to me I am concerned that a lot more music could be disappearing from the store, in which case I will stop wasting my money and move to another service.


EDIT: IT appears that occasionally for no reason the name of an album gets slightly renamed on the store which causes it to disappear for a few hours then reappear under the new name. If you have said album in your library it will stop working and you have to delete it and get the new version. I find it a quite beautiful and nice working app, but there are a couple of really tiny things I think could be made better:

For instance, I think that there should be a little slider bar for going back and forth in songs, something like the slider in the new youtube app or the one in metrotube.The artist name and the album name and art could be moved up, leaving space for it(yes, I do know that you can fast forward or back by holding the forward and back buttons).

And I think that landscape support would be a nice touch, especially in the album view.

Search, which I think doesn't need much explanation .

And is there any way we can inform Microsoft about little things like these, because the little thing matter too :D .

The problem is my phone authenticates with my microsoft account and my wife's phone authenticates with her microsoft account. The Xbox music subscription was created under my account therefore when my wife goes to XBOX music with her phone it appears that there is no Xbox music subscription. I have searched and searched for a solution to this and haven't found one. It would be nice if you could sign in to XBOX music on the phone with an alternate account but you cannot (at least I haven't found a way).

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I always download my songs unless I'm using SmartDJ, then I just choose what songs I want to download.

XM on Windows 8 has the option to automatically add songs to your PC's collection that you downloaded on other XM devices. Well, it has never worked for me so imagine my surprise when I open XM on my Surface RT and the last two songs I downloaded on my 920 just appeared with no effort on my part! One of those those songs I had only downloaded just a few minutes earlier. Could music syncing finally be working!!!

I decided to test it out by downloading three more random songs. None of them appeared on my Surface. I tried restarting both devices, closing and opening the app and staring at it with disapproving eyes. Nothing worked. I have no idea why two songs downloaded but the other didn't. Maybe it only syncs at certain time intervals. That said, it is easy to see that XBOX Music is... I am a long time Zune and ZunePass user and I really love the music ecosystem that Microsoft has.

That said, it is easy to see that XBOX Music is an "alpha" release at best, even 6 months later. Little (if anything) has been added to make its experience any better. No clear indication from Microsoft on how it is really to work or what they plan to do about it. There is the XBOX Music Appp on the XBOX, PC and Phone. There are weak apps for "Modern" and "Desktop" for Windows Phone to help sync music. There are usage right errors now and then...there is no easy way to make playlists on the phone...nearly impossible to work with the cloud collection and even add music to it that they do not have cataloged.

I've tried to live with and work around ALL of these issues and it still is not a fun experience. But here's what I currently do.

  • First, if I want music on my phone and want to keep it in playlists, I manage music in the Zune Software by making playlists and adding music to those playlists...if I need music off my XBOX Music pass, I download it here and add to play list.
  • I use the DESKTOP Windows Phone app to sync the selected playlists to my phone. Since I am on the 32GB Lumia (used to a 64GB ZuneHD), I usually only copy over my "most" favorite music.
  • In the XBOX Music app on my PC, I make playlists to be played by Streaming. Since they are for some reason limited to only 1000 songs, I sometimes have to make two playlists per category and then choose both in the XBOX Music app to play or play one on my phone and add the other to NOW PLAYING. I then fire these playlists up when I am able to stream.


So, this is really not the ideal way to do it but for now, it gives me some peace as I wait on Microsoft to finally tell us how XBOX Music is intended to be used. SO, to recap, items that still need to be refined or fixed:

  • An all in one solution to Music syncing (like Zune Software)
  • Better playlist management on the phone.
  • Sometimes changing songs stutters the album art/song title on WP8, regardless of streaming or not.
  • Album art is often incomplete and I have to use a (useful) third party app to fix album art.
  • Allowing more than 1000 songs in a playlist.
  • Allowing XBOX Music on the XBOX to play multiple playlists since we are limited to 1000 songs.

Well, I will start with, I am not a nokia/WP8 basher but music management is simply beyond horrible on my Lumia 920. I hope someone from site admin can take views from Lumia 920 owners and highlight it on front page. WP8 management is all going instagram instagram whereas some of the core required features of phone are million mile behind competition.

My problems with music management are below:

There is no simple way to clear playing now. (Apparently MS thinks that it is better to have a paid app in store to do that )
Creating playlist is plain horrible, even if you are able to create a playlist you cannot edit it or re-arrange it.
Apparently MS thought local search was stupid as why would someone keep a few hundred songs in his/her phone. Just to find music in phone there is an app but hub cannot do that.
There is an icon for favorite the song but you cannot find any use of that.
No upnp or dlna support.
You cannot browse in terms of folders.
You cannot edit tags on phone.
I synced from WMP from windows 7 and tags are all over the place, synced them again still a few tags are @#$@#^

MS when you pay 620 $ for a phone, you need much better experience than this. I shifted from Android to Lumia because of Nokia not MS but alas I guess Nokia also never thought about it even though they are promoting all that stuff about music.
