I have an unlocked AT&T (Running on Net10) Lumia 900. I have the 7.8 update and want to enable tethering. I understanding Net10's concern about running up data and such and I understand the risk of them realizing I'm doing a lot of tethering and freezing my account. But...I don't and won't. I just want to be able to upload certain things through my Kindle very infrequently (game updates through the GameChanger app).

When I select 'Internet Sharing' - 'On' I get this message immediately:

Connection not shared
To enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611.

Of course I'm not using AT&T so that doesn't help. The person i bought it from said that it was locked to AT&T but was unlock-able to any other network just like with all other lumias. However, i have the correct unlock code according to my IMEI number but cant insert it because my phone doesn't even give me the screen option to put in the code. When i put a working mini sim card in besides the at&t one as it means it will now be a different carrier sims card, it doesnt even acknowledge the sim card. It says the sim card is invalid or missing. Which means that i cant enter the unlock code because its not even picking up the foreign sim ! :/


I tried my best to turn the sim card different ways and such and tested it out in different phones and the sim works. Therefore it could only be the Lumia. I added a small piece of paper under the sim on the sim door thingy in case if it was loose or something. Still nothing. I have a feeling that the guy i bought it from tried unlocking it and messed up the code more than the allotted amount of entries and caused the phone to not recognize any sim cards. However, if this was the case woulnt it ask me for like a PUK code or something ? It doesnt even asks for that :/. All it says is i can make emergency calls and that the sim is invalid or missing. This is weird. I hope there is a way to solve this. Please help me because i spent a good amount of money on the phone. As I understand, this is the latest for the Lumia 900 and it should have the live-tile-fix update included (I can't recall the version number). However, after updating the latter one I have had problems with the tiles. It's funny because it is only certain apps (pinned) that have this problem.

For example, Weather Flow will not update at all (refresh rate is set to 1 hour). Another app is Fuse. Twitter shows the update number, so is all my email tiles, people hub.

The question is, which one do I sell on?
I love the hardware of the htc 8x, and while I also adore the l900's design i wouldn't mind trading it for something lighter and possibly smaller (also that 'new' factor...)

so as far as i can tell without i having arrived what the HTC has going for it : better screen, wp8 ( i didn't really have problems with 7.8, can't really think of anything major missing, i'm very interested in ppl's opinions on this), ligher + smaller body, nfc (what is the everyday use of this?), cool design

whereas the Lumia 900 has: nokia exclusives (can you seriously still not choose a costume ringtone on wp8??), apparently better battery life than the 8x
