Amid seeing the recent pushing of Sony advertising the Xperia Z and all the hype that has come with it - "one of the most powerful phone out there today" and "sleek, stunning design" and of course the dust and water resistance. Well upon doing some online research and gazing over photos of the XZ I, regrettably took the plunge and bought myself one, thinking that since me last having an android phone, a HTC Legend in 2010 that things would have improved immensely. Oh was I in for a shock though....!

So DPD came and delivered it, I unboxed it and was surprised at how basic the box itself was, for what is their most expensive, flagship handset. So I booted it up and immediately thought things had changed. Let me tell you android initial set up is now where near as helpful or as sophisticated as WP8. Anyways I persevered and got it up an running. I then started to hate it. The fact my contacts were all synced on my outlook account and the lac of outlook support on android put me right off, having to ask everyone for their numbers again.

Then there is the typing, messaging and keyboard which is awful, not very accurate and I was always pressing the comma button. you can change the keyboard layout but this didn't help. Android market, or google play as its now called is busy and messy, the home screens on it left me feeling confused and it just didn't have the sophistication or ease of windows phone. I also did some speed tests with my L920 and the XZ and the Nokia had the edge on all of them including launch times of temple run, the internet and contacts.

There is nothing better that I can see about android phone. The fonts aren't as clear, they are smaller, everything requires 2 or 3 more steps to get things done versus windows phone. People go on about the lack of support windows phone is getting but the thing is android phones need constant updates for performance enhancements which windows phones just don't need. Obviously there are other reason phones update but I really wasn't wanting for anything on my Lumia 920. Im using that now, going to completely wash my hands of android, again. Apps and more features will come to WP8 soon. Im just saying, it could be a lot worse. The XZ is highly over-rated.

Windows phone is now slowly but steadily taking off. Ill be sticking with my 920 until September when Microsoft and or Nokia announce their new products.

So what do you guys think? Do you think android has sort of hit a brick wall and cant really do anything else? Do you think android is really worth it considering its add filled apps and messy OS?

I'm torn between these two phones. I would be coming off a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD which has stellar battery life but a less than impressive camera which is important to me for the one off pics and videos. Android to me is just ok. It works but it somewhat buddy and slows down from time to time.

I know this is a Windows Phone forum but between the 928 and S4 which one do you think has the better camera and battery? Anyone had both?

Okay, so I've been to Phones4U to get my Nokia Lumia 920 replaced (dust issue yet again)... And they offered a replacement. One problem, they've discontinued the 920. They did however offer me a choice of 4 (originally 3) phones. The 8X, Xperia Z, S3, and the One. But I don't know what to do as my Lumia is a fantastic phone aside from the dust issue and would love another one. Any ideas?

Nokia seeks HTC One US import ban with new patent attack - SlashGear...

Nokia seeks HTC One US import ban with new patent attack - SlashGear

Quote:

Nokia is attempted to have the HTC One banned from sale in the US, hunting a block on imports over multiple allegations of patent infringement. The ITC legal attack sees six patents join the 44 Nokia has already claimed infringement of by HTC, and includes how internal components are arranged in a unibody device, how signal-to-noise ratio is handled in speech and data, and several elements to do with Google’s Android OS.

For instance, Nokia claims HTC infringes its patent on the video encoding/decoding with Android’s VP8 codec, something FOSS Patents suggests might even force Google to look instead to H.264 which may be more legally palatable. H.264 would involve royalties, but at least avoid wholesale import bans of the sort which Nokia is chasing.

“We began actions against HTC in 2012 to end the unauthorized use of our proprietary innovations and technologies” Nokia said in a statement on the newly added patent action. “Since then, despite the German courts confirming infringements of Nokia patents in HTC products, HTC has shown no intention to end its practices; instead it has tried to shift responsibility to its suppliers. We have therefore taken these further steps to hold HTC accountable for its actions.”

Last month, Nokia alleged that the high-amplitude microphone HTC used in the One breached an exclusivity agreement the Finnish firm has with supplier STMicroelectronics. However, despite Nokia’s claims, HTC protested its own ignorance about the existing deal the component maker had, arguing that the injunction did not impact the One.

Back in March, meanwhile, HTC was hit with a German injunction over power saving technologies used by its Qualcomm chipset. The company opted to disable the feature – which it said was “trivial and contributes only a negligible reduction in power-consumption” – as “a precaution against any attempt by Nokia to extend the scope of the judgment unfairly.”

Meanwhile, a second suit filed at the US District Court for the Southern District of California San Diego covers three patents which Nokia also alleges infringement on, by the HTC One and HTC First “Facebook Phone” as well as eight others.

Just shows you that a company that releases a high end Android AND CAN'T COMPETE AGAINST SAMSUNG IN TERMS OF MARKETING BUDGET will still sell while Nokai barely sold 5 million in 3 months having dozens of Lumia phones in the market.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/23/43...artphone-sales

It took HTC only a month.

Nokia should switch to Android for their high end phones and produce WP low ends.

We are talking about flagship, 5 million * $600 = $3000000000 in revenue in ONE MONTH, one such device alone would end Nokia struggles and allow them to reinvest everything to innovation that would benefit the consumers
