It should be able to do both. If you use skype (I think it's 3 dollars a month) you can make calls to anyone as long as you are on wifi.
You should be able to hook an external hard drive up (as long as it's in the right format) and play anything off of it. - 02-08-2013, 06:17 PM #3
Calls would only be via Skype, there is no native phone function built in to Windows RT.

The SIM card slot is for 3G connectivity. You will not be able to make calls in the traditional sense, but you can use Skype or other means via the net. The only difference is that you can basically have connection anywhere with a 3G signal, unlike the non-3G model that needs a Wi-fi network connection.
